At about 5:15 a.m. on June 3, 1999, Zane Floyd walked into an Albertsons supermarket in Las Vegas with a shotgun and killed four employees: Thomas Darnell, Carlos "Chuck" Leos, Dennis Sargent and Lucille Tarantino. Another worker, Zachary Emenegger, was shot and survived, and more than 20 other employees and shoppers hid. Police officers waiting outside talked Floyd into putting down the gun in the parking lot. A Clark County jury convicted him of four counts of first-degree murder in July 2000 and sentenced him to death. His appeals have failed, but no execution has been carried out because of litigation over Nevada's lethal-injection drugs.
